Sunday marked my first for an event run.

The Terry Fox Run

“You’re the only friend I know who will actually say ‘yes’ to joining a run” - Francis

Well Francis, you’re the only friend I know who will actually text me at 10pm the night before with a hello how are you are you up for the Terry Fox Run tomorrow morn? heh.

I knew I was going be utter crap as the last time I moved my feet was when I did some light running in Melbourne… which was in June? Raaah!

Right, the run. We didn’t want to be caught in the middle of the starting line madness so we hung back a little. It wasn’t that good a choice as when we tried to move forward, we had to carefully pick our way through the human traffic jam… and the only alternative route was the drain.

Kidding! We managed to overtake the crowd somehow, and by then I was feeling slightly claustrophobic so I decided to pick up a little more speed. But the dodging/weaving in and out was really tiring, so I stopped to wait for Francis… and realised at that point that I had lost him.

Nooooeeee! I panicked and started blasting forward. I had thought that I’d been left behind, so I shifted my gear into MOVE YOUR ARSE DAMNIT and chug-chug-chug-chugged all the way, barely stopping to walk.

Before I knew it, I was at the end. I was fairly surprised as I initially thought that it was a 5km run (it was actually 3)– but hey, I’m not complaining. I spotted the Milo van and zoned in on it, but the shouts of a Terry Fox volunteer stopped me in my tracks.

“Hey– don’t you want to finish the run??! Finishing line is THAT way!”

I reluctantly looked over my shoulder and hello, there was a balloon arch to my right. Ugh, Milo can wait I suppose… So I sprinted across the balloon arch and slowed down to a walk, engrossed in deciding whether to join the crazy Milo van line. But there was yet ANOTHER balloon arch which was the official finishing line?! By the time I realised that, I had already strolled through said arch. Great, so everyone saw me end the run with a leisurely air while scratching my forehead.

I wandered around the square, squinting for Frans and the rest… and guess who I saw! Kenny Sia, who was coincidentally there for a morning run. I called out to him and he stopped and stared at me uncertainly. I could see a thought bubble forming above his head– mmkay who is this weird sweaty small girl. Blog reader, I explained and introduced myself.

We chatted for a bit (on why I didn’t like him at first haha I’m such a good conversationalist) and took a picture (prolly the only photographic evidence of my participation of the TFR as I didn’t bring a camera that day). Then I decided not to interrupt his run and returned to my hunt for Francis and co.

Found them ten minutes later– apparently they got tired of attempting to cut through the crowd so they slowed down. At that time my thighs were starting to ache and I half-wished I didn’t rush to the end.

All in all I’m pretty glad I went for the run. Cos now I know that if I suck it in, I’m able to finish 3km in a pretty decent time with little to no practice :)

P.s. My hair’s now a little too light to what I’m used to having, but I’m pretty satisfied with the colour outcome! And I like how my hair smells now, all coconuty :)

P.p.s. Oh… apparently I’m balding too much at the top, fun fun I’m actually considering hair regrowth tonic

you can’t really tell but I stayed away from red and chose a nice caramel hue

So the biking got cancelled. We went for a jog instead… which ended up as a brisk walk much thanks to my shoes which nicely tore up last week’s blisters. But I managed to finish the trail by awkwardly hopping straight-legged like a kangaroo. I now know how important it is to have the right shoes… but ever since the Adidas tore I’ve been too lazy/broke to get a new pair. I prolly will get my ass on it soon though. Trust me when I say that this morning’s shower was AGONY.

That aside, the Kiara trail doesn’t seem as intimidating as it was half a year ago. Eventhough we were walking (ok me hobbling), we finished the whole loop pretty fast. Maybe it’s ’cause we were too busy yakking away…

Photos of the blisters after the jump, bit of a warning- it’s not for the faint hearted heh. Too disgoosting. Read the rest of this entry »

Blabla

Drove down to Saujana to meet Tat for lunch just because I felt all wifeyish… and since I was there, I decided to drag my sorry ass to the gym after a looooong hiatus. The last time I worked out was… never? Was too busy stuffing food down my throat hur.

For the past few months, I’ve been limiting myself to 2/3km straight runs (with the excuse of my probably mentally induced sore knee) then rewarding myself with a charkueyteow (or two) after. Today, I told myself that it’s all in the mind. Did a 5km run in 40 minutes (I know, slow… but it’s been awhile) and my left knee’s perfectly fine, no creaking no pain whatsoever :)

On a sad note I heard that a club member passed away in the gym… He was a regular, and during one of his workouts on the treadmill he just… conked over. On the spot :/ May he rest in peace.

Came home around 4 and went on to my next wifey task… getting down and dirty with the car. I wanted to send the car in for a wash, but my wallet prevailed and I resorted to doing it myself… they don’t call me Miss Stingy for nothing. Right now my arms feel as though they might fall out of their sockets anytime soon, but at least Mavey (a play on the word ‘Myvi’ and yes it deserves a name now… try scrubbing a scrap metal -this being said in a fond tone of course- for two hours straight and see if you start tossing out names for it) is shiny clean now yay.

Bad news is that I’ve got an unsightly V-shaped Crocs tanline now.
