Like yesterday

Awoke at 6:30am as we were heading over to Sg Buloh to pray for my late Porpor. Seeing my cousins’ solemn faces made me realise with a pang how much they’ve grown- how much WE’VE grown.

I started reminiscing about the nonsense we got up to during Chinese New Year at the grandparents’ when we were little… Cycling in circles around the courtyard while the older cousins handed out toll booth tickets (torn up pieces of newspapers); scribbling on photo albums (books) with the back end of combs (quills) while playing laoshi or rather teacher-teacher; having prim and proper tea parties while daintily sipping Chinese Tea and primly peeling up Mandarin oranges; harassing the poor ice-cream man to dig deeper into his frozen icebox for the frozen lollies; trawling the tiny town on foot in the blazing sun to get sweets; graduating to hardcore gambling and rm4.50-an-hour Cyber Cafes when we were older… no more.

Bittersweet. Even if it’s for the good, everything’s changing a tad too fast…

So little time
Try to understand that I’m
Trying to make a move just to stay in the game
I try to stay awake and remember my name
But everybody’s changing
And I don’t feel the same.

On an unrelated note, waking up this early makes me feel as though there are more hours in a day! I still have about two hours or so to laze about/attempt at something productive before I head off for work (work!) with Tat.

    Sigh.
Sometimes, just sometimes I wish I wasn’t grown up and had to worry about all the things that grown-ups do. Y’know - degrees and jobs and cars and PRs and making impossible decisions…..and losing the people you love, yet having to be strong and struggle on with things somehow. Hope your family and yourself are coping with the loss of your grandmother =(

My cousins and I have drifted apart - and that I blame on THE RISE OF COMPUTERS WTF. Instead of playing lanterns and catch-catch and burning random bits of the garden in mini bofires back in the day, they ALL started growing an extra appendage called the comp wtf. And spent more time than is comprehensible on said appendage playing WoW =(
And above is the story of how I became the uncool cuz who still had a thing for paper lanterns and igniting stuff during Mid-Autumn festival T_T

And why do you have to get up at 6.30am to work? 0___0 I am damn sympathetic - because I have to do the same too omgwtf. Early start + 12 hour day = cranky Michelle wtf.
Do you have to beat traffic or something luv? Why do Malaysians have to get up as early as rubber tappers wtf to get to the office by 9am wtf.

  6. yeah everything is changing and sometimes i think change comes too quickly - and a lot of us are doing so many wrong things to adapt to change. should we? or should we not, but get stuck being who we once were who no longer fits in the now?
